Don't Underestimate the Power of a Good Walk

June 22, 2020

Walking during quarantine

Are you totally underestimating the power of a good walk? Because I was. I’ve always enjoyed walks occasionally — but, since quarantine, I’ve been incorporating more walks into my week (almost daily). It’s been a nice new addition to my workout regime.

Walking consistently can help you feel better mentally and physically. It clears the head, especially if you can get in a lunchtime walk to break up the monotony of your day. It's basically a little energy booster for your day. Even better if you walk outside, as opposed to a treadmill. It’s crazy how a little vitamin D can make such a difference on your mood!

Walking is a powerful form of exercise. Why?

  1. Anyone at any level can do it. You don’t have to be a marathon runner to walk for 10-20 minutes.
  2. It’s easily accessible. Slip on your tennis shoes and walk out the door.
  3. It can help cardiovascular fitness.
  4. Improves your mood. Get that blood pumping and release some feel good hormones.
  5. A little extra calorie burn. It helps you get some more steps in throughout the day and contributes to your overall health.

Easy. Simple. Fun. Get the dog, get the fam together, get your head phones, get whatever you need to make walking enjoyable and get out there and do it!! Walking can be a great place to start your fitness journey — or add it to your current exercise program.
